internet marketing info Question And Answer
Silica, silicone for arts & crafts?? Can anyone help us?!!?
Could anyone possibly please help us??
My daughter bought me a lightbulb and herself a pair of earrings off of a market stool that sold funky kind of "New age" items and clothing. The earrings & bulb were decorated with what I can only describe as silicone "points"- the same kind of stuff you seal sinks & baths with but the "silicone" was all different funky colours so I assume its made or designed especially for arts and crafts.
My lightbulb no longer works and the stool where we bought it is no longer there to buy another one so we have been trying to find out what the product is called and where we can buy some to decorate our own bulbs and my daughter make her own jewellery etc. Its very rubbery in texture and you can decorate lighters, jewellery, candle sticks all sorts with it.
Your help would be very much appreciated as we have tried to find it on the internet but with such little info into its name or what its actually made of etc its hard to know what we are looking for!!
Oh my!!- I meant market "STALL!!!" Sorry guys!! *Blush

try an arts an craft supplier
You can paint silicone. Use poster paints
You could try hobby lobby or Michael's. They handle all the new crafts that come out.
yes i think it is high temperature silicon the type used by marine engineers for sealing high temp bearings and shaft seals it can be purchased in several colours from a good chandlers
sounds like silicone
they sell clear and white in the hardware stores,
Try craft stores like Michael's, take the bulb with you.
Silica is sand, so I think you mean silicone or latex caulking.
You can get it at Home Hardware etc. for sealing sinks etc.
But it only comes in clear & white colours AFAIK.
There are many brand names: Permatex, DEP, GE, etc.
Try their web-sites about colouring, acrylic paint may work.
I *think* you're talking about "silicone dipped lightbulbs"... if that's the case, making them as been discussed a lot on the hgtv.com message board (I believe the Holiday message board or the General Crafts message board). When I tried to do a search though, I only got these results (maybe they didn't go back far enough in the search function), but you could certainly ask about them in those boards and someone will give you the best links/answers.
Meanwhile, I found these in at least part of the search**... looks like the secret is using outdoor silicone (not bath-kitchen), in either clear or opaque for the dipping:

Here is another link (this lesson is supposed to excellent, but you'll have to pay $6 and view by computer--it's a pdf file:

But you might just want to google "silicone lightbulbs" or something like that too.
